  * Important changes that need special attention:
    * The keyboard map file format has changed; all old keyboard map files must be rebuilt.
      The external configuration import system will do this automatically if you are using it.
    * The syntax of the userenv-fromenv utility has changed; you will need to adjust per-user service bundles (usually Desktop Bus ones) and any non-packaged system ones that employ it.
      With the external configuration import system this is as simple as removing ~/.config/system-control/convert/services and re-importing.
    * The normal service directory has moved from /var/sv to /var/service-bundles/services .
      The local additions service directory has moved from /var/local/sv to /var/local/service-bundles/services .
      This gives all service bundle trees the same structure.
      The package installers should handle this migration under the covers.
    * The PC-BSD/TrueOS syscache and appcafe services are now preset disabled for security reasons.
      PC-BSD/TrueOS has abandoned its GitHub repository that these services install softwares from, leaving it available for any random person to hijack.
    * The (unused as packaged) /usr/local/share/system-control directory has been dropped.
      /usr/local/etc/system-control and /usr/pkg/etc/system-control are sufficient.
    * The (unused as packaged) /usr/lib/system-control directory has been dropped.
      /usr/share/system-control is sufficient, and not a mis-use of an executable code libraries directory.
    * The (unused as packaged) /usr/local/share/service-bundles and /usr/share/service-bundles directories have been dropped.
      /var/local/service-bundles and /var/service-bundles sufficient, and not on /usr which might be read-only.
  * Service bundles:
    * More cross-platform services: vmtoolsd, vgauthd, iodined, lightdm, wdm, sddm, collectd, fake-hwclock
    * More Linux services: fstrim, vpp, hwclock
    * More BSD services: adjkerntz, devpubd, ypxfr
    * uhidd@*, moused@*, and webcamd@* services are now generated and started on demand as HID devices come and go.
    * The non-instance uhidd, moused, and webcamd services have been removed.
    * The zfsd service has been removed.
    * The taiclock service is now named taiclockd in line with ntpd.
      There is a new taiclock service that runs a TAICLOCK client.
    * The anacron and entropy (a.k.a. random, urandom, and random_seed) services now run on a schedule.
      These replace old entries in /etc/crontab on the BSDs, which can be commented out.
  * Terminals:
    * The ECMA48 input decoders now understand XTerm's/tmux's DECFNK 27 control sequences.
    * The terminal emulator and ECMA48 input decoders now understand DECFNK 42 and 43 for F23 and F24, a long-standing XTerm extension.
    * The terminal emulator and ECMA48 input decoders now apply the ECMA-48:1986 rules for zero parameters in control sequences.
    * The ECMA48 decoder now implements ISO 8613-3 style suboptions for CSI control sequences.
      * These suboptions can be used for DECFNK and FNK, as an extension, to add modifiers.
      * They can be used for mouse reports.
      * They can be used for SGR 38 and SGR 48.
      * They can be used for SCO function keys, to add modifiers.
    * The ECMA48 input decoder no longer implements an extension to SCO function keys.
      It was too much of a conflict with CBT.
    * The terminal emulator now supports an alternate screen buffer.
    * console-terminal-emulator's teken, linux, and NetBSD console modes now allow application mode for the calculator and cursor keypads.
    * SoftTerm and the termio and framebuffer realizers now implement DECSCNM to set light/dark screens.
    * SoftTerm now implements REP.
    * SoftTerm and console-control-sequence now implement the SGRs for overline, framed characters, and encircled characters.
    * SoftTerm now handles combining characters.
    * SoftTerm now sets no attributes on the erase cell (used by ED, EL, and scrolling).
    * SoftTerm now supports the TeraTerm DEC private mode that changes the Escape key to send FS.
      console-control-sequence has been given the ability to emit this control sequence.
    * The various TUI programs will now take advantage of REP on some terminal types.
    * console-docbook-xml-viewer makes more use of the default colour.
    * console-docbook-xml-viewer now displays bullets on listitems and "or" symbols in argument groups.
    * console-docbook-xml-viewer now indents note and literallayout elements.
    * Some of the (non-ncurses) TUI programs now realize the default colour using the realized-upon terminal's default colour.
    * console-termio-realizer now accounts for terminals such as rxvt that do not implement the interaction of reverse video and colour correctly.
      (It's such a simple concept, which real terminals handled well; and yet every terminal emulator apart from Konsole gets it wrong.)
      To do this, however, it cannot pass default colours through to the realized-upon terminal.
    * console-termio-realizer now has widgets next to the VT area, for multiplexor switch comands and LEDs.
    * There are some new conversion sequences in the romaji-x11.cin file.
    * vc-get-tty now no longer sets the HOST environment variable.
      This provides better interoperability with the Z shell, which handles HOST as a special shell variable.
    * Keyboard maps have entries for most of the de facto standard keys.
      * PS/2 HID realizers now support "Internet", "Office", and "Multimedia" keyboard scancodes.
  * System tools:
    * system-control now has ps, procstat, list-logins, and list-process-table subcommands.
    * There is now a chdir-home command.
    * There is now a nvt-client command.
    * There is now a console-tty37-viewer command.
    * There is now a login-envuidgid command, which sets up the same stuff as envuidgid, but prompts interactively for account information using PAM login authentication and a full-screen TUI and also sets the LOGNAME environment variable.
      The login command is a thing of the past for virtual terminal login (of either flavour), like getty already has been since 1988.
      This is also suitable for terminal login with directly attached (non-dialup, fixed speed and framing) serial/parallel real terminals (that are not museum pieces).
    * There is now an unvis command.
    * There is now a framebuffer-dump command.
    * There is now a deb-systemd-invoke command.
    * userenv-fromenv now respects the LOGNAME environment variable, enabling the use of multiple user accounts with different names but the same UIDs.
    * All of the debug logging in service-manager is now switched off.
      This has not been useful in development in some years and is just extraneous noise, that makes the logging rattle, on production systems.
    * convert-systemd-units is slightly less aggressive about quoting in the files that it generates.
    * convert-systemd-units now has a FIB setting that translates to setfib.
    * convert-systemd-units now explicitly does not support %m.
    * ifconfig now copes with some OpenBSD bugs, and prints IPv6 flags on OpenBSD.
    * A bug that stopped ifconfig recognizing the no_radr flag has been fixed.
    * login-banner has more escapes, for hostname, deployment, and location.
      However, with the advent of login-envuidgid this tool has become less used.
    * clearenv's --keep-term now preserves the TERMPATH and TERMINFO_DIRS variables as well.
    * clearenv now has a --keep-uidgid option for preserving UID/GID/GIDLIST.
    * klog-read and syslog-read now write the log data to their standard outputs, to be separable from their own error streams.
    * emergency-login is now a separate binary because -static and -lpam do not mix.
    * emergency-login now looks up "root" by name before looking up UID 0, preventing any confusion from the use of "root" and "toor" in NetBSD/FreeBSD.
    * A bug in ucspi-socket-rules-check that prevented catch-all rules for IPv4 working has been fixed.
      The bug caused it to fail closed, as if the rule did not exist.
    * Because there are now more than three escape algorithms, the syntax of system-control escape has changed.
  * Configuration:
    * rc.conf amalgamation now includes OpenBSD /etc/hostname.* network interface settings files.
  * Documentation:
    * Generated HTML manual pages now no longer risk overlapping Guide pages.
    * There is now a user-vt manual page documenting the user-space virtual terminal directory structure.
    * console-keyboard-map is now on its own manual page.
    * user-vt-realizer-configuration is now on its own manual page.
    * convert-fstab-services is now on its own manual page.
    * convert-systemd-units is now on its own manual page.
    * DocBook XML manual pages are now installed by the packages.
  * Packages:
    * There is now a nosh-smf-shims package.
    * The missing ncftpbatch per-user service source file is now packaged.
    * FreeBSD packaging now works for at least FreeBSD version 13.
      The manifest file syntax on the pkg-create(8) manual page is a falsehood, with most items given in the wrong file format and some with the wrong names, and much of how this works is educated guesswork and experimentation.
    * There is now NetBSD packaging.
      NetBSD's pkg_create(1) manual page does not even document two of its input files (which cause complaints by pkg_info(1) if omitted) at all.
  * Miscellany:
    * Z shell completions now find service bundles in a lot more places.
    * Z shell completions are now in the site-functions directory.
    * safe_execvp() now treats ENOTDIR as an uniniteresting error.
    * There is now a mechanism for overriding the compiler auto-detection if one really must.

  * There is a new compatibility fastpowercycle/powercycle command, with all of the same options for cruel system administrators.
  * system-manager now treats SIGWINCH differently on non-Linux operating systems, treading it as a request to invoke a new powercycle service.
    SIGRTMIN+6, unused in the systemd system, is the Linux equivalent.
