Improving the NetBSD Guide

The NetBSD Guide assumes that BSD disklabels are the norm.

They are actually an old partitioning scheme from 1988 that is easy to mis‐use and wipe out your GUID Partition Table or PC/AT firmware on‐disc Boot Manager and not the norm 30 years after the world invented better ways of partitioning discs.

It is a bad idea to have them as the principal explanation of how to use a modern BSD.

In 2026, I attempted to rectify this. I wrote some updates to the Guide. Here they are:
